Sending a book to a Yoto player

If you have a Yoto player, you can put your children's finished books into your own Yoto library, so your child can listen with no screen in the room. You connect your Yoto account once, in Settings under "Connections", and then send books one at a time.

Connecting your Yoto account

1. Go to Connections. In Settings, it is under "Privacy and your data".
2. Read the box called "What goes to Yoto", which lists everything that will be sent.
3. Press "Connect my Yoto account".
4. Sign in on Yoto's own page. We never see your Yoto password.
5. You come back to Connections, which says "Your Yoto account is connected."

Connecting needs the card check on your account to be done. If you decide not to connect partway through, the page says "Nothing was connected, and you can try again whenever you like."

Sending a book

1. On Connections, under "Send a book", choose a book from the list.
2. Press "Send it".
3. The page says "Sent. It will appear in your Yoto app, ready for you to link to a card that you already own."
4. In the Yoto app, link the book to one of your cards.

Only finished books with a recorded voice on every page can be sent, because a Yoto has no screen and a page with no voice would play as silence. Books for ages 2 to 7 usually have one, and a chapter book can be given one with Have it read aloud. Books that cannot be sent yet are listed under "Only books with a full recorded voice can be sent."

The book goes into your own "Make Your Own" library, on the Yoto account you connected. It is not a listing in Yoto's shop, and there is no way to publish it there.

A book you have already sent is listed under "On your Yoto" rather than in the list to send.

What Yoto receives

• The book's title, exactly as it is written. Titles often include your child's first name, and when they do, the first name is sent too.
• A separate web link to the recorded voice of each page. The chapters on the card are called "Page 1", "Page 2" and so on.

Nothing else about your child is sent. Yoto does not receive their age, the words of the story or any of the pictures. The sound is played from our side each time the card is played, so it is not copied onto Yoto's servers, and taking a book back stops it. The keys that let us put books into your Yoto library are stored encrypted, and are deleted when you disconnect. The privacy notice describes this too.

Taking a book back

Under "On your Yoto", each book you have sent is listed with the date it was sent. Press "Take it back" next to a book, and it stops playing. The page tells you whether the book was also removed from your Yoto app, or whether it may still be listed there, in which case you can delete it in the Yoto app.

Disconnecting

Press "Disconnect my Yoto account" at the bottom of the Yoto card. Every book you sent stops playing, and the sign-in we hold for your Yoto account is thrown away. You can connect again later.

If sending is switched off

We can switch Yoto off for a while. When it is off, the card says "Connecting and sending are turned off at the moment, but books that are already on a card will still play." Taking a book back and disconnecting always work, even then.

If you see "Your Yoto account is no longer connected, so please connect it again and try once more.", connect again from the same page. For anything else, ask us from Help in your dashboard.
