You can print any of your child's finished books, or save one as a PDF file, from your own account. We do not make the file on our side. Each finished book has a page laid out for paper, and your browser's print window prints it or turns it into a PDF.
Printing a book
- Go to Readers and choose your child.
- Open the "Books" tab.
- Next to a finished book, press "Print or save".
- The page that opens shows "Print" and the book's title, with the whole book laid out underneath. Press "Print it".
- Your browser's print window opens. Choose your printer and print.
"Back" on the same page takes you back to where you were.
Saving it as a PDF
Follow the same steps, and in the print window choose "Save as PDF" where it asks you for a printer. The page reminds you of this under "To save it as a file instead". The file is made on your device, not on ours.
A saved PDF is an ordinary file. The cover says who the book was made for, by first name, and many titles include your child's first name too, so think about who you send it to.
What the printout looks like
- The cover is on its own sheet, with the cover picture, the title and "Made for" followed by your child's first name.
- Each page of the book is on its own sheet, with its picture above the words and its page number underneath. Chapter titles appear where chapters begin.
- Pictures are never split across two sheets.
- The last sheet is a short note saying who made the book, and that the words and pictures are yours to read, print and keep for your family.
- The buttons and instructions at the top of the page are left off the paper.
The page is laid out for A4 paper held upright.
Tips for a good print
- Look at the preview. Your print window shows a preview before anything is printed. If your printer uses a different paper size, such as US Letter, check the preview before you print.
- Let the pictures load. Wait until every picture on the page has appeared before you press "Print it", especially on a slow connection.
- Reload an old page. The links to the pictures on this page last two hours. If the page has been open longer than that, reload it before printing so the pictures load again.
Which books can be printed
Only finished books that are on your child's shelf can be printed. A book that is still being made, is being checked, was not made, or has been put away has no "Print or save" button. To print a book you put away, bring it back first; see Looking over a finished book. Your child cannot print from their own screens: printing is something only a grown-up can do, from the grown-ups' pages.
If a picture is missing from the printout, or the page will not open, ask us from Help in your dashboard and tell us which book.
