A teacher can connect their own Google Classroom. The classes they lead here then stay in step with it: a student added to the Classroom class is added here, and a student taken out loses their place. You connect on Google Classroom, which is in the teacher sidebar under "Account" once your school can use it.
What TaleTykes can see
When you connect, Google asks you to let TaleTykes see your classes and the people in them. That is all it asks for, and TaleTykes can only read: it never posts, grades or changes anything in Classroom.
- For each student, only a first name and the first letter of their last name are kept, the same as a list you type. Their email address and photo are never asked for.
- Only your active classes are read, and only yours.
Connect and choose your classes
- Open Google Classroom and choose "Connect Google Classroom".
- Sign in with your school Google account and allow both things Google asks about.
- Back on the page, your Classroom classes are listed. For each one, Link it to a class you lead here, or Start a class for it, which you then lead.
Students added from Classroom get new sign-in pictures or a PIN, like any new student. Print their cards from the class's roster.
When a student leaves a Classroom class
They lose their place in your class here, the same as when you remove them. A student in no class any more is deleted 60 days later, with their reading, as the school agreement says. If one read would take out more than half of a class, nobody is taken out until you check and confirm on the page.
A student you add here by hand stays until you remove them, even if they are not in the Classroom class.
Share an assignment to Classroom
On an open assignment, choose "Share to Google Classroom". Classroom opens and posts a link to your class's sign-in page on your school's devices. Students sign in there as usual and find the book under "From your teacher". Nothing about your students is sent to Google this way.
Disconnecting
Choose "Disconnect" on Google Classroom. Your classes and students stay as they are, and TaleTykes's permission is taken back at Google too. You can also take it back from your Google account's security settings.
