The class board is a weekly list, for the class, of how many books each student finished that week. Students open it as "Our week" on their home screen. It is off until you switch it on, it never includes students in the 2 to 5 age group, and you can leave any student off it.
Classes are opening soon, so there is no class board yet. This article describes how it works once the school agreement is in force.
What students see
"Our week" shows the dates of the week and the words "It starts again on Monday". Below that, each listed student appears with their picture, their first name and last initial as they are on your class list, and the number of books they finished, such as 2 books. Students with the same number of books share a place in the list.
- Books finished that week is the only thing it counts. Minutes, pages and answers are never on it.
- At most ten students are listed, so when several share tenth place, some of them may not appear.
- A student who has not finished a book that week is not listed, so nobody is shown with nothing.
- A student sees their own line marked "You". If they are not among the ten, their own count is shown under the list as "And you".
- If nobody has finished a book yet, it says "Nobody has finished a book this week."
Switch it on
- Open the class, then its Board tab.
- Switch on "Show our week to this class". The same switch is on the class's Settings tab.
The Board tab's "What students see" panel shows the list the class would see, even while the board is off. Once it is on, students find "Our week" on their home screen.
Who is never on it
- Students in the 2 to 5 age group. They never see the board and are never shown on it, whatever the switch says.
- Anyone you leave off. On the Board tab, under "Every student", switch off the student's own switch, which reads like "Show Maya R. on the board". The same switch is beside each name on the Roster. The student is not told, their reading still counts everywhere else, and they do not see the board themselves.
What counts as a finished book
A book counts when most of its pages were read, with real time spent reading it. Each book counts once a week for each student, however often it is read, and paging straight to the end does not count. There is also a cap on how many finishes count for one student in a day and in a week.
When it starts again
The board starts again every Monday at midnight in the school's time zone. The time zone is chosen when the school is set up, and a school admin can change it on the school's Settings page.
Nothing extra is stored for the board. It is worked out from the reading we already keep, each time it is shown, so there is no history of past weeks to look back on.
