Some groups buy TaleTykes plans for their families and hand them out as seats, each with its own link. Using the link covers your plan until the end of the group's term, you are not charged, and nothing renews on its own.
The link
The link may come in an email from us, whose subject is the group's name followed by "has a TaleTykes seat for you", or the group may pass it on to you itself. It can be used once, and it stops working 90 days after the group made it. Opening it does not use the seat; only the button on the page does.
Before you use it
- You need a TaleTykes account of your own, and we need to have checked that an adult set it up.
- The page refuses a seat while you are being charged for a plan of your own. Cancel it first, and then use the link.
- If we gave you a plan, or you are on your free days, the seat takes its place.
Use the seat
- Open the link. If you are not signed in, sign in first and you will come back to it. If you have no account yet, you can make one from the sign-in page, but read the note above before the check that follows.
- On "Your invitation", read the sentence about the seat.
- Press "Use this invitation", and your Home page opens. The words under the button give the date your plan is covered until.
If the link does not work
| What the page says | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That invitation has expired.", "Somebody has already used that invitation." or "That invitation has been withdrawn" | Ask the group for a new link. |
| "That link does not match an invitation." | Open the whole link again. |
| "Those seats are not live yet.", "That group has no seats left" or "That group's seats have come to an end." | Ask the group. |
| "We have to know that an adult set this up" | The page offers "Finish the grown-up check". Answer the questions, or give a card, and open the link again. |
| "You are already paying for a plan." | Cancel your plan from "Open your wallet", which goes to Plan and books, and then open the link again. |
Either way, nothing about your account has changed.
After you use it
The Plan and books page says "Your plan is provided by" the group's name, with the date it runs until. Your plan is the one the group chose, Sprout or Grove, with that plan's readers and monthly books. You cannot add extra readers or change plan yourself while a group pays; those are arranged through the group. Plans paid by a group, or given by us has more.
The seat ends when the group's term ends, or earlier if the group takes it back. The monthly books stop and we email you to say so. Every book you made stays, and you can choose a plan of your own at any time from Plan and books.
What the group can see
The group's page shows how many seats are in use and, for each seat, whether it is in use and since when. It does not show who holds a seat, your child's name, the books or how much anyone reads. An address the group gave us for the link is removed from the seat once you use it.
If you run a group
We set groups up ourselves. If you look after one, "Your group" appears in your menu. It opens your group's page, or a list if you look after more than one, with counts of seats "In use", "Invitations out" and "Left to give".
- Under "Give out a seat", type an address in "Send it to (optional)" if you would like us to email the link. Leave it empty to pass the link on yourself.
- Press "Make a link".
- Under "Copy this now", press "Copy the link". The link is shown only this once.
In the "Seats" table, "Take it back" ends a seat. An unused link stops working, and a family using the seat loses the plan, keeps every book they made, and hears from us. No seat can be given out while the page says "Not live yet", which lasts until the group's invoice is settled.
