Refunds
When a book is given back to your account, when money is given back to your card, and how to ask.
This is the part of our terms about refunds, exactly as it is written there. It comes from version 10, which has been in effect since October 2, 2026.
Our refund policy
There are two kinds of refund. A book can be given back to your account, which happens without you asking. Money can be given back to the card you paid with, which you ask us for and a person decides.
The adult check. The $1.00 we charge when you set up your account, to check that an adult is here, is given back to the same card at once, without you asking. It can take some days to show on your statement.
Books. A book is paid for from your allowance or your extra books when it starts. If it cannot be finished, or our checks stop it, whatever it used is given back to your account automatically. If you tell us that one of your books came out wrong and a person here agrees, it is given back too.
Money we give back as a matter of course. A payment that was taken twice, or taken by our mistake. Something you paid for that we were not able to provide. A first charge after your free days, or a renewal, that you did not mean to carry on with, when you tell us soon after it was taken and none of that period's books have been used. The months of a yearly plan that had not started when you closed your account, which is described below.
Anything else. Ask, and a person reads what you wrote and decides. We may give back all of a payment or part of it. We can refund a payment made in the last six months.
What is not refunded. Cancelling a plan does not refund the time left in the period you have paid for, because your plan carries on until the end of it. Books added by a gift or a code are not refundable once used. Taking an extra reader off a monthly plan refunds nothing for the month already paid for. Moving to a smaller plan gives you a credit against your next bills rather than money back to your card.
How to ask. Open Help in your dashboard, choose "A payment, a plan or a refund", and say which payment it is. If you cannot sign in, write to privacy@taletykes.com. A person replies. A refund goes back to the card you paid with, we email you when it has been made, and it usually takes five to ten working days to show on your statement.
What a refund does to books you bought. If a pack of extra books is refunded in full, we take back up to the number of books it added, from the extra books you have left. If it is refunded in part, the books stay with you. If a gift is refunded in full before anybody has used its code, the code stops working. Once a code has been used, the books or the plan it gave stay with the family who used it.
Closing your account during a yearly plan. If you close your account during a yearly plan, we refund the whole months of that year that had not started when you closed it, together with any credit you were owed, once everything is deleted. The refund goes to the card you paid with, and our payment provider emails you a credit note. We do not make this refund on a payment you have disputed with your bank; a person decides what to do in that case.
Bought through Apple. A plan or books bought in our iPhone or iPad app were sold to you by Apple. A plan bought through the App Store is refunded by Apple, under Apple's rules, and so is anything else bought there. You can ask Apple from the plan page in the app, or from Apple's own page for reporting a problem with a purchase. We are not able to refund an Apple purchase ourselves.
If you ask your bank instead. You can always write to us about a payment first, and it is usually quicker. If you ask your bank to reverse a payment, buying on your account is paused while the question is open.
Nothing in this section takes away a right to a refund that the law where you live gives you.
Where to go next
The whole terms say how a plan renews and how to cancel it. The help center has the steps for asking, and Contact has our addresses if you cannot sign in.
