Tell a friend

How to share your link, what your friend has to do, when the books arrive, and the limits on how many we add.

Plans and billingUpdated

If a friend would enjoy TaleTykes, you can send them your link. When they sign up through it and start a plan, we add two books to your account and two to theirs. Nothing is added if they only sign up.

  1. Open Settings and choose Tell a friend. On Plan and books, the same page is listed under "Codes, gifts and friends" as "Invite a friend".
  2. The page shows your code under "Your code".
  3. Press "Copy the link", then paste the link into a message, an email or anywhere else you like.

Your code is made the first time you open the page, and it stays the same after that. If "Tell a friend" is not in your Settings, we have paused it for a while, and a link you already shared does nothing while it is paused.

What your friend needs to do

  • Open your link before they sign up. The link remembers your code on their device for 30 days, so they can read about us first and sign up later, as long as it is on the same device and browser. If they open another family's link after yours, the later link is the one that counts.
  • Sign up for a new TaleTykes account. An account that already exists cannot be added to your link afterwards.
  • Start a plan.

The code on its own cannot be typed in anywhere: the "Use a code" box is for gift and promotion codes only, so your friend needs the link.

When the books arrive

The books are added when your friend starts a plan, not when they sign up. Your "Tell a friend" page keeps count:

  • "Nobody has used it yet." until somebody signs up through your link.
  • Once they have, it says how many people have used it, and that the books arrive when they start a plan.
  • Once a friend has started a plan, it says how many have, and how many books have been added.

The books show in "Extra books" on Plan and books, and in "History" as "Books from a referral". Like all extra books, they never expire, and they are used after your monthly books.

Limits

  • We add books for up to 10 friends in any year. After that, friends can still sign up through your link, but no books are added for either of you.
  • We do not add books on our own where two accounts look like the same person, for example when both used the same card. Two different households do sometimes share a card, so if that is you, write to us.
  • You cannot refer yourself. Using links between accounts you control is against the terms, which say that accounts doing it are suspended.

If books you expected have not arrived, write to us from Help in your dashboard and choose "A payment, a plan or a refund".
