Extra books

Buying books on top of your plan, what the three packs cost, how the books are used, and what happens to them later.

Plans and billingUpdated

Extra books are books you buy once, on top of any plan or without one. They never expire, and they stay in your account until you use them. A picture book uses 1 and a chapter book uses 2, the same as books from your monthly allowance.

The three packs

PackPriceEach book works out at
10 books$8.99$0.90
30 books$23.99$0.80
40 books$29.99$0.75

Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax is added at checkout in the places where we are registered to collect it. Each pack is a single payment, and nothing renews.

How to buy a pack

  1. Open Plan and books. You can also reach it from Settings > "Plan and books".
  2. Find the card called "Extra books".
  3. Press "Add 10 books", "Add 30 books" or "Add 40 books".
  4. Pay on our payment provider's page, which opens next.
  5. You come back to Plan and books, which says "That went through, although it may take a moment to appear."

The "Extra books" figure at the top of the page then goes up by the size of the pack, and the "History" list shows the purchase as "Books added".

If the "Extra books" card is missing, or pressing a button brings up a message that buying is paused, see When buying is paused on your account.

How extra books are used

We always use this month's plan books first and your extra books after them, because the monthly books do not carry over. A chapter book that needs two can take one of each. Your children do not need to do anything different. When the monthly books run out, the next book comes from your extra books, and Plan and books says "You have read a lot this month".

Books that reach you in other ways are counted in the same "Extra books" figure and never expire either. That includes books from a gift or a promotion code and books from telling a friend.

You do not need a plan to use extra books. If your plan or your free trial has ended, your readers can go on making books for as long as you have extra books left. They also keep working while a payment for your plan is not going through, when the monthly books are paused. When a payment does not go through explains that case.

If you cancel your plan

Canceling does not touch your extra books. When a plan ends we email you "Your plan has ended", and the extra books you bought are still yours to spend.

Closing your account is different: it deletes everything on it after 30 days, extra books included, and it stops your plan with it. Close your account explains the rest.

Refunds of packs

There is no refund button. If you want your money back for a pack, write to us from Help in your dashboard and choose "A payment, a plan or a refund", and a person will look at it.

If we refund a pack in full, we take back from your extra books up to the number of books that pack added. If you have fewer left than that, we take back what you have. The change shows in "History" as "Refunded to your card". If we refund only part of the payment, the books stay with you.

Books added by a gift or a code are not refundable once they have been used. Refunds covers everything else that can be given back.
