You can close your account from Settings at any time. Nothing is deleted that day: your account, your readers and every book they made are deleted 30 days later. Before you close it, download anything you want to keep.
What happens to your plan
Closing your account stops your plan, so you do not have to cancel it first and nothing more is charged to your card. The sheet that asks you to confirm says which of these is yours, and so does the email:
- A plan you pay for stops renewing. It stays yours until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- A yearly plan does the same, and the whole months that had not started when you closed it are refunded to your card when everything is deleted.
- A free trial does not turn into a paid plan, so nothing is ever charged.
- A plan whose last payment did not go through ends straight away, and that payment is not taken.
- A plan a group pays for, or one we gave you, is not yours to stop and is left alone.
If you keep your account within the 30 days, a plan that closing stopped is set to renew again, and one that was already ending stays ending.
Before you close it
- Download a copy. In Settings > Your data and agreements, choose "Download a copy" under "A copy of everything". The file holds every book and every page. The links to pictures inside it work for an hour, so save any pictures you want to keep straight away. Getting a copy of your data explains what is in it.
- Use up your bought books. Any extra books you bought and have not used are deleted with the account.
The "Close your account" page has two shortcuts for this, under "Before you go": "Download a copy of everything" and "Look at your plan".
Closing it
- Go to Settings > Close your account.
- Choose "Close my account".
- A sheet asks "Close your account?". Choose "Close my account" again to confirm.
From that moment:
- Signing in takes you to this page and to no other. The rest of your account does not open, and the navigation is not drawn.
- Your readers are signed out on every device and cannot sign in.
- We send you an email, "Your account is scheduled for deletion". It says that nothing has been removed yet, when everything will be, and what has happened to your plan.
When the 30 days are up
Once the 30 days have passed, our daily deletion run removes the account, every reader, every book and picture, any recordings you made of yourself reading, and your sign-in, including your email address and password. Once that has happened, we cannot get any of it back.
If you come back to TaleTykes after that, you start again with a new account.
If you change your mind
Sign in with the same email address and password as before, any time in the 30 days. You land on Close your account, which is the one page a closed account opens, and it now reads "Changed your mind?". Choose "Keep my account".
We send you an email, "Your account is active again". Your readers and their books are where you left them, the rest of your account opens as before, and a plan that closing stopped is set to renew again. A reader you removed shortly before closing the account, and that had not been deleted yet, comes back as well, so remove that reader again if you need to.
If you cannot sign in, write to us at support@taletykes.com before the 30 days are up and tell us the email address on the account, and a person will keep it for you.
Other ways to stop
You may not need to close your whole account.
| If you want to | Do this instead |
|---|---|
| Stop paying but keep your books | Cancel your plan and keep the account open. The books you have made stay readable while the account is open. |
| Remove one child | Remove that reader; see Removing a reader. |
| Stop our optional emails | Turn them off in Settings > "Emails and reminders"; see The emails we send. |
How long we keep things lists everything else we delete, and when. If you have a question before you close your account, ask us from Help in your dashboard.
