Removing a reader

How to remove a child from your account, what is deleted after 30 days, how to ask us to undo it, and what it means for your plan.

Readers and age groupsUpdated

You can remove a reader from their Settings page at any time. They are signed out at once and disappear from your account, and their books, pictures and reading history are deleted 30 days later. Until then, you can ask us to undo it.

How to remove a reader

  1. Go to Readers and choose your child.
  2. Open "Settings" and scroll to the bottom, to the card called "Remove ...", with your child's name in it.
  3. Press the "Remove ..." button.
  4. Read the sheet that opens, "Remove ...?", and press "Remove ..." again to confirm. "Keep it as it is" closes the sheet and changes nothing.

You are taken back to your list of readers.

Removing a reader always works, even when there is an updated notice waiting for you to read, because a new notice should never stop you taking a reader out of your own account.

What happens straight away

  • Your child is signed out on every device.
  • They no longer appear anywhere in your account, and no new books can be made for them.
  • Grown-ups you share your readers with no longer see them, and any report card link you shared for them stops working.
  • Their place on your plan is free straight away, so you can add another reader in their place.

What happens after 30 days

Thirty days after you remove them, we delete the reader and everything that belongs to them: their books and pictures, their reading history, and the recordings you made of yourself reading their books. This happens automatically. How long we keep things lists the other records and how long each is kept.

Changing your mind

There is no button to undo a removal yourself. If you removed a reader by mistake, write to us before the 30 days are up and ask us to put them back. You can write from Help in your dashboard, choosing "Signing in, or my account", or email support@taletykes.com. Tell us your child's first name and roughly when you removed them.

After 30 days, nothing can be brought back.

Extra readers and your plan

Removing a reader does not change what you pay. If you pay for an extra reader, the place stays on your plan until you remove it.

  1. Go to Plan and books.
  2. Under "Extra readers", press "Remove one" and confirm.

While every extra place is in use, the card says "Every extra place is in use. To remove one, remove a reader first." Extra readers explains what removing a place does to your bill.
