We do not keep an account, or anything in it, for longer than we have a reason to. If nobody signs in to an account with no readers on it for a long time, we send one email. If nobody signs in within 14 days of that email, we remove the account. Signing in once is enough to stop this.
Which accounts this applies to
It only applies to an account with no readers on it. An account with at least one reader is never removed for going quiet. A reader you have removed does not count.
An account with no readers might be one you opened but never added a child to, one whose readers you have all removed, or one you use only to read along with another family. A suspended account is never removed for going quiet.
How long, and the email we send
The clock starts from the last time somebody signed in to the account. It is currently set to about a year. Settings > Your data and agreements shows the exact number of days under "How long we keep things". If you would like us to keep your account for longer, ask us. We can set a longer time on your account, although that page still shows the usual number.
When that time has passed, we send one email, "We are about to close your account". It says that unless you sign in within 14 days, which is the current setting, the account and everything in it will be removed, and that signing in once is enough to prevent this. It has a "Sign in" button.
The email is not a reminder to come back. If you have finished with TaleTykes, you do not need to do anything, and the account is removed by our daily deletion run once the 14 days have passed.
Because this email is the only warning we send, make sure the address in Settings > Account and security is one you still read. If mail to your address has been coming back to us, we have stopped writing to it, so the warning cannot reach you and the account is removed without it.
Keeping your account
- Choose "Sign in" in the email, or go to the sign-in page yourself.
- Sign in with your email address and password.
That stops the clock, and it starts again from that sign-in.
If your browser is already signed in, the sign-in page takes you straight to your account, and that does not count as signing in. Choose "Sign out" first, then sign in again.
If you have forgotten your password, reset it and then sign in with the new one. Setting a new password on its own does not count.
What is removed
When an account is removed, everything in it goes, including your sign-in, which holds your email address and password. After that, we cannot get anything back, and if you come back to TaleTykes, you start again with a new account. How long we keep things lists what we keep and for how long.
If you have a question about your account, ask us from Help in your dashboard, or write to support@taletykes.com if you cannot sign in.
