Changing your email address, password or name

How to change the address you sign in with, your password, or the name we greet you by, and what each change asks of you.

Your accountUpdated

You can change the email address you sign in with, your password and the name we call you in Settings > Account and security. Each of these has its own card and saves on its own.

What each change needs

ChangeWhat you typeWhat happens next
Your nameThe new nameIt is saved straight away
Email addressThe new address and your passwordWe email one link or two, and the address changes when the last one is opened
PasswordYour current password, then the new one twiceIt is saved, and your other devices are signed out

Changing your email address

  1. Under "Email address", type the new address in "New email address".
  2. Type your password in "Your password". We ask for it so that nobody who finds the page open can move your account to their own address.
  3. Choose "Send the link".

What happens next depends on whether you confirmed your current address. Confirming your email address explains that email.

  • Your current address is confirmed. We write to it first, with "Did you ask to change your email address?". Choose "Yes, change my address" in that email. We then send "Confirm your new email address" to the new address, and the change happens when you choose "Use this address" in the second email.
  • Your current address was never confirmed. We write only to the new address, and the change happens when you open that link.

After you open a link, Account and security shows a note headed "Nearly there" that says what happens next. Each link lasts an hour, so if one has run out, start again from the form. Until the change is finished, we keep writing to your old address, and a message that was already on its way may still arrive there afterwards.

Once the address has changed, you sign in with the new one, we update the address your receipts go to, and we send "Your TaleTykes email address has changed" to the old address.

If no email arrives within a few minutes, the new address may already have an account with us. The page does not say so, so that the form cannot be used to find out who has an account. If you see "Changing an email address is switched off for a little while", try again later or ask us from Help in your dashboard.

Changing your password

  1. Under "Password", type your current password in "The password you use now".
  2. Type your new password in "New password", and again in "New password again". It needs at least 10 characters, it can have up to 200, and it must be different from the one you use now.
  3. Choose "Change password".

Every other device that is signed in to your account is signed out, so you will need to sign in there again with the new password. The device you made the change on stays signed in. If you try many times in a short while, the page asks you to wait a few minutes.

If you have forgotten your current password, sign out and follow Resetting your password instead.

Changing your name

Under "Your name", type the name you would like us to use and choose "Save your name". This is how we greet you on your Home page and in our emails.

  • It can be up to 60 characters.
  • It cannot contain a link or an email address.
  • If you leave it empty, we use your email address instead.

This is your own name, not your child's. A reader's first name is changed on that reader's Settings page; see A tour of each reader's pages.

If a change here does not work as described, ask us from Help in your dashboard.
