Confirming your email address

What the confirmation email is for, whether you have to open it, and what to do if it never arrived or the link has run out.

Your accountUpdated

When you create an account, we send an email called "Confirm your email address" to the address you signed up with. Opening it is worth doing, but it is not required: your account works in full whether or not you confirm your address.

What the email is for

The email has a button, "Confirm my address". Choosing it tells us the address really is yours, and it also signs you in on that device.

The address matters because it is how we reach you. We use it to write to you about your account and your children's books, and it is how you get back in if you ever forget your password.

Is it required?

No. Nothing is locked while your address is unconfirmed, and we do not keep asking. You can add readers, choose a plan and make books either way.

The check that an adult set up the account is a different step, and that one is required before you add a reader. Why we ask for a card explains it.

The one thing a confirmed address changes is how a later change of address works. When your current address is confirmed, we check a change with that address first, which makes it harder for somebody else to move your account away from you. Changing your email address, password or name has the details.

With our current settings, the link works for an hour, although the email itself says a day. We send the email once, when you sign up, and there is no button to send it again.

If you missed it, you do not need to do anything, because your account carries on working. What is worth doing is checking that we have the right address:

  1. Go to Settings > Account and security.
  2. Under "Email address", read the address shown after "You sign in and hear from us at".
  3. If it is wrong, or one you no longer use, change it there. We send a link to the new address, and opening that link changes the address and confirms it at the same time.

If the address is right but none of our emails reach you, see Our emails are not arriving.

If you did not sign up

If this email reached you and you did not create a TaleTykes account, somebody may have typed your address by mistake. You can ignore the email. If you are worried about it, write to us at support@taletykes.com.
