A district on TaleTykes sits above its schools. Each school keeps its own admins, teachers, classes and students. The district adds one place to see every school as counts, rules that apply to all of them, one bill, one signed agreement and one connection to its class lists. We set a district up with you: write to us with its name and its schools, and we invite its first admin.
What a district admin sees
For each school in the district, on the district's page:
- its plan and how many teachers it has seats for;
- how many classes and teachers it has;
- how many students it has, how many read on at least one day, the minutes they read (and how many of those were listening), the books they finished, the pages they read and the new books they made, over the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
Those are counts for the whole school, added up for the district. A district admin never sees a class, a teacher's name, a student, anything a student wrote, an answer, or a safety alert. Those stay with each school, where its own admins and teachers see them. Schools are listed by name and cannot be sorted by a figure.
A school's figures appear once one of its admins has accepted the version of the school agreement that says its district sees them. Until then the page lists the school with its plan and says its figures are not shared yet.
Rules for every school
On Rules a district admin can turn off, for every school in the district, the same switches a school admin can turn off for every class: students making books, reading at home, Pip's voice, the weekly class board and sharing books with the class.
The strictest rule wins. Something the district turns off is off at every school and in every class, whatever a school or a teacher chooses, including schools that join the district later. Something the district leaves on is up to each school, and then to each class's teacher. A school admin sees a switch the district holds as set by the district, and cannot turn it back on.
One bill for several schools
A district can pay for the School plan for several of its schools on one invoice a year. The invoice has one line: the School plan's price for each teacher, times every teacher the district bought seats for. Billing shows how many of those seats each school has.
- A district admin can move seats from one school to another at any time. That does not change the invoice.
- Adding seats sends an invoice for the extra teachers for the rest of the year. Taking seats away credits the next invoice.
- A school given no seats goes back to Free. Nothing is deleted, and anything Free does not hold is paused until it has seats again.
- A school on the district's plan sees on its own billing page that the district pays, and cannot change or cancel the plan there.
- A school that already pays for its own plan keeps it. It can move onto the district's plan once its own ends.

Signed agreements
On Agreements a district admin can ask us to sign the district's own data protection agreement, the Student Data Privacy Consortium's national agreement, or a state addendum, once for all its schools. We reply by email, and each school in the district sees where the request got to on its own privacy page.
Class lists, connected once
On Class lists a district admin can connect Clever, ClassLink or the district's OneRoster server once, and then choose which of the service's schools is each of the district's schools. Each school it maps is then connected exactly as if the school had connected itself: its lists are read every night, only a first name and a last initial are kept of each student, and the rest of how it works is the same. A school's own admins see the connection on their class lists page and can end it for their school. A school that already has its own connection to the same service keeps it.
Admins
A district can have several admins. Any of them can invite another on Admins. An invitation works for 14 days, and only for an account with the address it was sent to. A district admin's own family account, if they have one, stays separate.
