Too many tries

What the rate limits are for links, codes and two-step checks, and how long to wait before you try again.

Updated November 2, 2026 · 2 min read

We limit how often you can ask for links and codes, and how many times you can try a code. This keeps other people from guessing their way into your account. Waiting a few minutes clears most limits. The two-step lock lasts 15 minutes.

What you'll see for two-step

"Too many tries. Wait 15 minutes, or sign out and use a backup code."

You have two choices:

  1. Wait 15 minutes, then enter a fresh authenticator code.
  2. Sign out and use a backup code. Sign in again, then enter a backup code at the two-step check. See Backup codes.
  1. Stop asking. Each request counts toward the limit.
  2. Wait 5 minutes.
  3. Ask once, and check the email you already have first. It may have arrived late. See Sign-in email didn't arrive.

If it doesn't work

  • You still see the message after waiting. Wait the full time. The window is measured from your earlier tries.
  • You have no backup codes. Wait out the 15 minutes. If you can't, email support@taletykes.com from the address on the account.
  • A child is locked, not you. That is a different limit. See Child is locked out.

Common questions

Is my account locked? No. The limit applies to the step you were on, not to your account.
